More than 30% of the population aged 20 or older in Korea enjoys golf.
Recently, the Korea Golf Association announced the results of the 2021 Korea Golf Index survey conducted with Kyunghee University Golf Industry Research Institute and 4,512 adult men and women over the age of 20 from 17 cities and provinces nationwide. This index survey had a sampling error of ±1.45 at the 95% confidence level.
According to the announcement, the golf active population was 31.5%. The continuous golfing active population was 23.2%, and the new golfing active population was 8.3%. Among the new golf activity population, the proportion of men (65.2%) was 30.4% higher than that of women (34.8%).
The place they used the most was the indoor screen (45.5%). It was followed by an indoor golf driving range (25.7%), an outdoor golf driving range (25.8%), and a golf course (13.1%). Indoor screens have shown a continuous increase since 2007. On the other hand, golf courses (fields) were surveyed at 13.1%, down 4.8% from 2017.
The average monthly expenditure on golf activities per person (excluding equipment costs) was approximately KRW 260,000. By type of expenditure, the golf course had the most with 575,000 won. The population willing to learn golf in the future was 32.8%, up 5% from 2017. By gender and age, males in their 30s (68.5%) and males in their 40s (66.2%) showed the highest rates. Women in their 20s (61.8%) and 40s (58.8%) were found to be more willing to learn golf.
Based on the results of this survey, the association plans to integrate statistical classification data according to detailed indicators, produce a booklet, and distribute it.
