The Pony Chung Scholarship award ceremony started in 2015 and has been held every year. Players recently active in the men’s and women’s national teams, such as Jung Sang-bin (Switzerland Grasshopper), Yang Hyun-jun (Gangwon FC), and Lee Eun-young (Korea University), received this scholarship in the past when they were middle school students.
The Pony Chung Foundation was established in 2005 to carry on the innovative spirit and talent-oriented philosophy of the late Chung Se-young, honorary chairman of Hyundai Development Company. It awards scholarships and operates support programs to outstanding talents in various fields of society.
Chung Mong-gyu, head of the Korea Football Association, said in a greeting at the event, “Hyundai Motor Company Chairman Jeong Se-young, who developed Korea’s first domestic automobile ‘Pony’ in 1975, was very interested in discovering young talent.” Of course, I hope that he will grow into a great player with culture and character and become a figure who leads Korea in the future.”
