At the Asian Games, Korean men’s soccer has been one of the ‘filial’ sports. It has won five gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. They even won back-to-back gold medals at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang. Now, the Hangzhou Asian Games team, led by head coach Hwang Sun-hong, will be aiming for a third consecutive gold medal.

Hwang departed for Hangzhou, China, via Incheon International Airport on Nov. 16. South Korea, which is in Group E, will play Kuwait on Sept. 19, Thailand on Sept. 21 and Bahrain on Sept. 24. The team has been training in Changwon since Sept. 4, when it entered the A-match period, and continued its final tune-up in Paju on Sept. 13.

The team is determined to win a third consecutive gold medal. Chinese Taipei, Myanmar and Iran have won two consecutive titles, but none have won three in a row.

“We know how difficult and long it will be to win a third consecutive Asian Games gold medal,” Hwang told reporters before his departure. “Together with the athletes, we will do our best to achieve the desired goal with the mindset of ‘breaking the ice’ with all our strength,” he said. ‘Pabu Chimjoo’ means ‘breaking the pot to cook rice and sinking the ship to return home’, which means to fight with determination without looking back. “The goal is definitely gold,” said captain Baek Seung-ho (Jeonbuk), “and we will show good form from the first game and win the gold medal.”

Hwang has gotten a breath of fresh air recently with the resolution of the issue of ace Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain-PSG). PSG had been in a tug-of-war with the national team over the timing of Lee’s release from the Asian Games after he injured his left thigh on March 22, and decided to fly him to China after the UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage match against Dortmund (Germany) on March 20. Lee is scheduled to arrive in Hangzhou on the 21st. If all goes according to plan, he is expected to play against Bahrain on the 24th.

“We need to calculate when Lee will be at his best,” Huang said. We will make a decision based on that aspect rather than using him quickly,” Huang explained. “The national team’s training went well as planned. The players are in good shape,” he said. “There are some things that need to be fine-tuned, and we need to perfect them in the group stage.”소닉카지노

The Korean women’s soccer team is looking to redeem itself at the Asian Games. Colleen Bell’s side finished bottom of Group H at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but were given a glimmer of hope when they drew 1-1 with ‘world number two’ Germany in the final. After three consecutive bronze medals at the Asian Games, the women’s soccer team will be aiming for gold this time around. The team travels to China on Sept. 19 and is in Group E with Myanmar (22), the Philippines (25) and Hong Kong (28).
