Resurrected ‘Victory Fairy’ Sanchez controls ball, mind, and heart

Ricardo Sanchez (26-Hanwha Eagles) is back to being a “win fairy. Sanchez pitched six scoreless innings against the LG Twins in Jamsil, Seoul, on June 2 to help his team snap an eight-game losing streak.

It had been 10 games since he threw a no-hitter against the NC Dinos on June 23. Up to that point, Sanchez was 4-0 with a 1.48 ERA in eight starts. Hanwha went 7-1 in his starts, but he was up and down in both July (6.00 ERA) and August (5.14 ERA). It was said that his pitching habits were being read. He had three games where he allowed double-digit hits.

The last two days were different for LG, as the left-handed trio overpowered LG’s left-handed hitters, including Park Hae-min and Kim Hyun-soo, with the exception of Hong Chang-ki (two hits). Shin Min-jae did hit a double to left field in the third inning, but it was a lucky hit made with quick feet.

Sanchez said after the game, “Today, each pitch went where I wanted it to go. He knew what pitches I wanted to throw, and he led me with confidence. It’s a big help for a pitcher to have a catcher like that at home plate,” Sanchez said after the game.

“I prepared myself mentally and physically to throw well, and I went into the game with the mindset of ‘I’m going to control what I can,'” Sanchez said. “I wanted to come out strong on the mound (against No. 1 LG), and my teammates were all behind me.”안전놀이터

Sanchez was unable to pick up an individual win against LG as Hanwha snapped an eight-game losing streak. Reliever Jang Si-hwan gave up a tying three-run homer to Park Hae-min in the eighth inning, but Lee Jin-young’s RBI single in the ninth clinched the win. “The team win is the most important thing, and the winning pitcher is not the only one,” Sanchez said.

Instead, the goal remains the same until the end. Sanchez said he’d like to win 10 games. He’s only at six wins (five losses), and he’ll need to go undefeated the rest of the way. “I’m a very competitive player,” Sanchez said. I go to the mound with the intention of winning every game, and that’s what I’m going to do for the rest of the season,” he said.
