Sophomore shooter Woo Sang-hyun led Kyung Hee University to its third straight win.
Kyung Hee University defeated Hanyang University 60-48 in the 2023 KUSF University Basketball U-League on Thursday at Hanyang University Olympic Gymnasium.
With the win, Kyung Hee University extended its winning streak to three games, improving its season record to 5-5 and moving into a tie for fifth place in the league. It’s a frightening turnaround, with five wins in their last six games.
The key to Kyung Hee’s victory was sophomore shooter Woo Sang-hyun, who came off the bench.
The 6-foot-5 wing reserve drained three 3-pointers on the day, using clever off-ball moves from the perimeter to lead the way for the Hanyangs. On the defensive end, Woo worked seamlessly at the top of a 3-2 zone defense to stifle Hanyang’s offense.
Woo Sang-hyun said, “Hanyang University is very quick to go for a fast break after a successful defense. So, before preparing for this game, we prepared for the part of preventing fast-break scoring by running the backcourt quickly after the offense failed, and that part worked well,” he said, explaining the factors that led to the victory.
“My shooting has been a little up and down lately. Whenever that happens, the coach asks me to throw it with confidence, so I felt comfortable when I shot today, and it led to a good result,” she smiled.
Kyung Hee University has been on a roll. After losing their opening four games in a row, Kyung Hee University is now 5-1 in their last six.먹튀검증
“I think it’s thanks to the players’ desire to win, and I think the biggest thing is the defense. Even if the offense doesn’t work, the strategy of tying up the opponent with defense seems to have been a factor in the rebound.”
Kyung Hee University’s next opponent is powerhouse Yonsei. Yonsei is tied for first place in the league with an undefeated start to the season. For Kyung Hee University, which needs one win and one point to qualify for the playoffs, this game is also a must-win.
“First of all, I think any team is a university student like us, and we will try to play as hard as we can without letting our tails down,” said Woo Sang-hyun.
